Today is Stand Up To Bullying Day, when we’re all encouraged to first examine ourselves to make sure we are not inadvertently bullying someone and to help us all learn how to stop aggressive, unwanted behavior.
There are 3 main types of bullying:
- Verbal
- Physical
- Social
Nearly 20% of kids in middle and high school have been bullied.
If you or your child are being bullied, you can:
- Tell the bully to stop in a clear voice
- Talk to a trusted adult
- Stay away from places where bullying happens
- Stay near adults or other kids
- Call 911 if you are in immediate and serious harm
To help defend someone from bullying, Understood.org recommends:’
- Get them away from the bully
- Report the bully
- Partner with teachers, coaches or other adults to make sure the child has a buddy around to help stop the bullying
- Be a shoulder to lean on
